Pre-Health Pathways

When exploring careers in the healthcare industry, it is important to understand most health professions require specialized licensures that can only be achieved after completing a graduate-level degree from an accredited institution. D’Youville University’s Pre-Health Pathways are designed to help high school students efficiently plan an academic schedule which aligns them to a professional career from the first day of their college experience. Such alignment often allows students to shorten their time-to-degree-completion, which ultimately saves them money and allows them to start working earlier than traditional unplanned degree tracks.

Understanding Pre-Health Pathways

All pre-health pathways offer what’s called an “Advisory Track” which enrolls students in a related undergraduate degree which will allow students to complete the foundational prerequisite courses for the required graduate degree of their desired health profession.

In some cases, pathways also include an “Early Assurance Track” for a select group of exceptional high school students. Early assurance tracks provide a varying array of benefits based on graduate degree demand and accreditor requirements. These benefits may include anything from a guaranteed opportunity to interview for a seat into the graduate program, to an accelerated undergraduate curriculum track with guaranteed admission for direct entry so students are not required to re-apply to graduate school if they choose to continue their studies at D’Youville University.

Irrespective of your desired career, our pre-health programs combine rigorous health sciences coursework with clinical practice and hands-on learning experience. D’Youville students also benefit from the unique opportunity to train on an interprofessional health-focused campus, where exposure to 15+ health professions is the norm, providing students with a much greater understanding of how the healthcare industry works, and what it takes to be a successful collaborator when working in a team with multiple different health specialists.

If you’re interested in health and passionate about helping others, your path to a rewarding career in healthcare starts here. Our Pre-Health Pathways are designed to help you explore your interests, discover your calling, and build a strong academic foundation for success in today’s most in-demand health professions.
