Graduate Assistant to the Dean's Office

Microbiology and Chemistry Graduate Assistant

Department:

Job Description:
The Microbiology and Chemistry GA will assist the School of Arts, Science and Education Lab Manager in setting up and breaking down the labs for various biology and chemistry courses. However, the primary responsibility will be in preparing media for microbiology labs.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing solutions
  • Cleaning glassware
  • Making media (tubes and plates)
  • Sterilizing laboratory equipment using the autoclave
  • Cleaning labs
  • Checking safety equipment

Chiropractic Department Graduate Assistant

Position Summary:
Assisting the supervisor in the completion of projects or activities related to program operations, clinic operations, and other program and faculty activities and projects.  A specific list of responsibilities and expectations for the academic year based on mutual areas of interest, expertise, and need will be developed between the designated supervisor and student.

Graduate Assistant Duties:

  • Must be available for campus events: e.g. Experience Chiropractic Day, Graduate Open Houses, Orientation, White Coat and Graduation Hooding and Pinning Ceremonies.

Graduate Assistant for Online Learning

Job Description:

The Department of Online Learning is looking for a graduate student who wants to utilize their classroom skills in innovative, fun, and new ways. The GA will work on special projects associated with growing and improving the educational experience for our online students.

Requirements:

While the GA will be working with the Online Learning department, you do not need to be overly tech-savvy to apply. We will provide you with the technology training you need to be successful. The Center for Doctoral Studies and Research Graduate Assistant

Department:
Center for Doctoral Studies and Research

Position Summary:

The CDSR Graduate Assistant assists with the organization and operation of the Center for Doctoral Studies and Research. This includes management of current grant funding, meeting scheduling, inventory of student and faculty research interests, coordination of faculty development sessions, event planning, support of teaching faculty, departmental administrative support, literature review, and exploration of grant funding opportunities.

The skills grown or enhanced as part of this position will support future endeavors in research and grants management.

The candidate will be self-motivated and able to effectively budget time. They will be organized and able to maintain electronic files securely and using consistent and clear naming conventions. They will ask questions to clarify responsibilities and will notify supervisor when tasks are complete and new tasks are needed.

Job Description:

  • Be present on campus in the Center for Doctoral Studies and Research for at least 8 hours per week – preferably during regular business hours
  • Assist with inventorying current student and faculty research interests
  • Schedule and coordinate faculty development sessions related to identified needs
  • Asset map region around DYU and review data on key health needs and risks
  • Assist with newsletter editing and web site design
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of a research/scholarship event in Spring 2024
  • Attend meetings with community partners as needed
  • Support marketing of departmental programs and manage social media accounts (e.g. LinkedIn)

Office of the Registrar Graduate Assistant

Department:
Registrar

Position Summary:

The graduate assistant will perform daily operational activities to include updating and maintaining yearly class schedules, data entry into the student information system, and setting up mailings for licensure forms.  The graduate assistant will gain knowledge of the academic catalog, course scheduling and the National Student Clearinghouse as well as oversee any student employment assistants to the Registrar.

Primary job duties:

  • Assist in preparing the yearly course offerings for each term
  • Prepare student licensure/examination forms
  • Assist with proofing and updating the academic catalog
  • Answer student questions about the registration process.
  • Direct students to the clearinghouse for transcript requests and enrollment verifications

Graduate Assistant for The Wellness Lodge

Department:
The Wellness Lodge Student Affairs

Position Description:
The Wellness Lodge Graduate Assistantship is an opportunity for students pursuing a Graduate Level Degree to gain practical experience working within the Wellness Lodge. Students will have the opportunity to utilize creative problem solving, and the ability to refine their leadership skills. The candidate selected for this position will report to the campus Mental Health Counselors.

The Wellness Lodge is D’Youville’s home to our campus mental health and wellness supports.  The Wellness Lodge houses our mental health counselors who are available for in-person counseling and manage the Wellness Lodge supports and programming. The Wellness Lodge also hosts a variety of wellness programming; including yoga, art, massage, mindfulness, meditation, therapy dogs, and other special events.  All classes are free to students to participate.  The Wellness Lodge is also where you can find the Campus Cupboard, a free pantry for all members of the D’Youville Community.  

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with regular Wellness Lodge programming; including promotion of events, participating in programs, evaluating and identifying ways to increase engagement, and assessment of programs. 
  • Assist with management of Campus Cupboard
  • Assist with development and management of Wellness Lodge mentoring initiative
  • Assist in communicating and disseminating tasks or other pertinent information to work- study (WS) students.
  • Attend regular Wellness Lodge staff meetings.
  • Assist with maintaining organization and tidiness of Wellness Lodge individual activity station and other shared spaces. 
  • Other duties as assigned

Office of Accessibility Resources Graduate Assistant

Graduate Assistant Saint & Maggie

Department:
Student Affairs

Key Roles & Duties: 

  • Walking/ Playing with Saint and Maggie 
  • Monitoring Saint and Maggie’s interactions, being sure no one is causing them stress or harm 
  • Checking the dogs have enough water and changing their water dish when needed 
  • Ensure Saint and Maggie don’t get into things they shouldn’t be 
  • Monitoring Saint and Maggie’s treat intake and ensuring they receive no more than 2 or 3 treats per day 

Daily Shift Expectations: 

Graduate Assistants and Saint Sitters play an important role in keeping Saint and Maggie as happy and as healthy as they can be. At the start of each shift, each Saint Sitter will check in with the Saint Sitter GA to let them know you are here. Saint Sitter GAs will let Saint Sitters know when they plan on walking the dogs so they can go together. The dogs should not be left unattended for any reason. If you are taking one dog, the other Saint Sitter or GA should be either walking Saint or watching him.  

When you are not walking Saint and Maggie, please interact with them by playing with them, brushing them, and giving them attention. Change out their water dish often to ensure clean water. GAs are in charge of giving out and monitoring how many treats the dogs get. Dogs may have a treat only if they do a trick and have not had too many treats that day.  

At the end of each shift, GAs will fill out the end of shift log. This lets us know how Saint and Maggie are doing and if there is anything we need to mention to their vet.
