The Legend of Saint: A New Chapter Begins

On the D’Youville campus, two Saint Bernards, Saint and Maggie, can always be found spreading smiles and school spirit.

They’re more than mascots, they’re loyal friends, campus celebrities, and keepers of the Saints’ mission: to care, to give, and to never refuse a call for help.

Every day, they greet students, comfort friends who miss home, and cheer on the Saints from the sidelines. But recently, Saint and Maggie began to notice something in the air, a new kind of energy. The cheers were louder, the lights a little brighter, and the spirit of D’Youville felt like it was ready for something… more.

Now, Saint has always been confident in his role, maybe even a little too confident. He likes being the center of attention. And as the campus energy grew, he decided that if something new was coming, it should be something worthy of the Saint Bernard legacy… and maybe even worthy of him.

So one winter evening, after a day of spreading joy he and Maggie wandered a little farther than usual. They trotted past the Hub, through the glow of campus lights, and followed the faint sound of music echoing from beyond the city.

There, in a field dusted with snow and starlight, they met a Saint Bernard unlike any they’d seen before, bright-eyed, full of energy, and dancing to the beat of distant drums. This new friend could leap, cheer, and move with the kind of excitement that could lift an entire crowd to its feet.

Saint immediately approved, after all, what better way to honor a legend than to create another? Maggie agreed, knowing this vibrant companion could bring even more joy to D’Youville’s spirit-filled community.

So they invited their new friend home. Together, they crossed the city and arrived just as the clock struck midnight. The gym lights flickered on, the students cheered, and the new Saint stepped into the spotlight, ready to carry D’Youville’s story into every game, every celebration, and every heart on campus.

Now, Saint and Maggie have a new partner in purpose.

This newest member of the Saints family carries forward everything D’Youville stands for: compassion, community, strength, and joy.

A loyal companion.

A tireless cheerleader.

A friend to every student.

And while this new Saint already had a spirit all their own, one final piece of the story remained: letting the students choose the name that would welcome this legend into the D’Youville family.

And in the end, there was only one name bold enough, joyful enough, and iconic enough to match the legacy…

Saint.

(And rumor has it; the original Saint may have nudged the choice with a confident tail wag.)
