Nursing Prof Selected as a “Nurse of Distinction”

Buffalo, New York – May 07, 2012 – Dr. Denise Dunford, director of D'Youville's Nurse Practitioner program and an associate professor in the School of Nursing, was one of ten nurses selected as the "2012 Nurses of Distinction" by the Buffalo News and featured in the Sunday, May 6 edition of the News.

She was cited for her positive impact on students, her advocacy for interdisciplinary education and her integrity and uncompromising standards in older adult care. Dr. Dunford is also an emergency nurse practitioner, one of the first working in this setting.

She received the 2010 Emergency Nurses Association's National Competence in Aging Award and the 2007 Business First's Women of Influence Award. Dr. Dunford is active with the American Heart Association, breast cancer research, Roswell Park and Hospice Buffalo.

"Dr. Dunford exemplifies excellence in Nursing Education and is a role model for nursing's contribution to meeting society's healthcare needs," her tribute stated.

She is a D'Youville graduate and earned her M.S. and DNS at the State University at Buffalo.
