D’Youville Prof Named Wellness Team Higher Education Partner of the Year

Buffalo, New York – May 31, 2016 – Renee Cadzow, PhD, Assistant Professor in D’Youville College Health Services Administration Department and Co-Director of the Center for Research on Physical Activity, Sport, & Health was named the Buffalo Public Schools 2016 School Wellness Team Higher Education Partner of the Year.

The award was given at the April 30th Wellness Celebration held at Waterfront Elementary School.

Dr. Cadzow’s contribution to school wellness within the Buffalo Public Schools has included her work as part of the Perry-grant funded School Health and Wellness Collaborative project.

This project, a partnership between D’Youville College, the Community Health Worker Network of Buffalo, the District Parent Coordinating Council, Canisius College, and the Buffalo Schools, involves training parents and students as community health workers to improve their engagement in school wellness in their school buildings.

It provides DYC students service learning opportunities within the schools, and facilitating community based participatory research that supports the work of school wellness teams in the district.

Dr. Cadzow also co-leads the School Wellness Advisory Team (SWAT) with the District Wellness Coordinator, Dr. Sue Baldwin, who has assisted with school wellness team trainings, and has helped to develop materials to evaluate the work of school wellness teams at each of the 60+ school buildings in the district.

Dr. Cadzow is a graduate of Miami University of Ohio and earned her advanced degrees in biological anthropology from the State University at Buffalo.
