D’Youville Celebrates Nursing Dean Shannon McCrory-Churchill as a 2026 Woman of Influence

Dr. Shannon McCrory-Churchill, dean of D’Youville University’s Patricia H. Garman School of Nursing, has been named one of Buffalo Business First’s 2026 Women of Influence, recognizing her leadership and contributions to D’Youville and the Western New York community.

McCrory-Churchill is one of 25 women selected for this year’s honor from more than 100 nominations. Honorees were chosen by Business First’s editorial staff and a panel of judges based on their contributions to their organizations and the broader community.

For two decades, the Women of Influence Awards have recognized women making an impact across Western New York. Since the awards began in 2007, approximately 500 women have been honored, including executives, entrepreneurs, educators, elected officials and nonprofit leaders.

“Shannon’s leadership reflects exactly what we value at D’Youville, a commitment to our students, our community and the future of healthcare,” said Dr. Lorrie Clemo, president of D’Youville University. “Since becoming dean, she has brought tremendous energy and vision to the Patricia H. Garman School of Nursing while remaining deeply focused on preparing the nurses our communities need. This recognition is well deserved, and we are incredibly proud to see her honored among such an accomplished group of Western New York leaders.”

McCrory-Churchill was appointed dean of the Patricia H. Garman School of Nursing in August 2025, bringing extensive experience in nursing education, research, clinical practice and academic leadership to the role.

As dean, she oversees the School of Nursing’s academic programs and works to strengthen clinical partnerships, support faculty and student research and scholarship, and prepare students to meet the evolving needs of the healthcare workforce.

Her approach to leadership has emphasized student-centered learning, innovation in clinical preparation and stronger connections between nursing education and the communities D’Youville graduates will ultimately serve.

“Nursing is the heart of healthcare, and I am fortunate to work every day alongside faculty, staff and students who are committed to making a difference in the lives of others,” said McCrory-Churchill. “To be recognized alongside so many accomplished women from across Western New York is a tremendous honor. I’m grateful for this recognition and proud to represent D’Youville and the Patricia H. Garman School of Nursing.”

The recognition comes as healthcare organizations throughout Western New York and across the country continue to face significant workforce challenges. Under McCrory-Churchill’s leadership, D’Youville’s School of Nursing continues its longstanding focus on preparing highly skilled, compassionate nurses while responding to the changing needs of the profession and the communities they serve.

McCrory-Churchill and the other 2026 Women of Influence honorees will be celebrated during a luncheon hosted by Buffalo Business First on Thursday, Nov. 12, at Salvatore’s Italian Gardens. For the full list of 2026 honorees, check out the article at Business First.
