D’Youville Athletic Luminaries to be Featured on Radio Special

Buffalo, New York – February 1, 2012 – D'Youville luminaries, Brian Cavanaugh, athletic director, and Earl Schunk, men's basketball and well-known local coach, will be featured guests on WECK Radio (1230 on the AM dial) for an in-depth interview about D'Youville sports Thursday, February 2 at 7:00 p.m.

Cavanaugh was head hockey coach at Canisius for 25 years and a physical education teacher prior to joining DYC. He is responsible for 11 sports, supervision and coordination of intercollegiate, intramural, club and recreational activities, program development and budget management at the college.

A proficient hockey player, he is the all-time leading scorer for SUNY Brockport and holds several unbroken records.

Schunk was the coach at Grover Cleveland High School from 1995 to 2010 and led the varsity basketball to championships in 2004 & 08. He coached baseball, track and field; girls' cross country and softball at the school. He taught mathematics and technology integration for 33 years in the Buffalo public school system and was named "Citizen of the Year" in 1975, Basketball Coaches Association of NY "Coach of the Year in 2004" and the South Buffalo "Sportsman of the Year."

Schunk was also the athletic coach for the West Seneca Central Schools.

In two weeks, fellow luminaries and coaches Angie Churchill and John Hutton will be guests on the program.
