D’Youville University Names Dr. David T.R. Stewart Dean of the School of Arts, Science, and Education

D’Youville University has appointed David T.R. Stewart, PhD, as the Dean of the School of Arts, Science, and Education following his successful tenure as interim dean. Dr. Stewart brings over a decade of experience in teaching, research, and academic leadership to his role, along with a deep commitment to advancing D’Youville’s mission of preparing students to lead and serve in an ever-changing world.

Since joining D’Youville in 2013, Dr. Stewart has held several key academic leadership positions, including associate dean and interim dean, and has played a pivotal role in shaping the university’s approach to academic program development, assessment, and general education. His earlier teaching and research in chemistry and biochemistry focused on the use of spectroscopy and mass spectrometry in the detection of environmental contaminants.

Dr. Stewart earned his PhD in Analytical Chemistry from the University at Buffalo and his BS in Biochemistry from Binghamton University. He has been recognized with multiple honors for excellence in teaching and scholarship, including the Faculty of the Year Award (2018, 2021), the Faculty Council Caren Shapiro Research Award (2018), and Alpha Lambda Sigma’s Professor of the Month (2015).

In his role as dean, Dr. Stewart will continue to strengthen interdisciplinary connections across the university, advance student-centered learning experiences, and foster opportunities for faculty and student research.
