BUFFALO, NEW YORKD’Youville University announced their spring 2025 commencement speaker will be U.S. Congressman Tim Kennedy. Over 2,000 students, faculty, staff, family, and friends will take part in this memorable experience, celebrating the achievements of the Class of 2025. The event will take place at the Harborcenter on May 10, 2025.

“We are honored to welcome Congressman Tim Kennedy to our stage as a dedicated public servant and alumni of D’Youville University,” says President Lorrie Clemo, PhD. “His dedication to public service and tireless advocacy for education, healthcare, and community empowerment make him an inspiring figure for our graduates as they begin their next chapter. We are grateful for his commitment to improving healthcare and the wisdom he will share with our graduates and their families.”

A proud alumnus of D’Youville University, Congressman Kennedy earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in occupational therapy before dedicating more than a decade to working with geriatric and pediatric patients. His experience as a licensed occupational therapist instilled in him a deep understanding of the challenges facing the healthcare sector, driving his advocacy for improved healthcare access and infrastructure. Furthermore, his voice serves as a prominent example of how education leads to civic leadership and positive participation in society.

Elected to the House of Representatives in April 2024, Congressman Kennedy sits on the House Homeland Security Committee and has been assigned to two of its subcommittees: Emergency Management and Technology, and Transportation and Maritime Security. Prior to serving in Congress, Congressman Kennedy represented Western New York in the New York State Senate. During his tenure in the New York State Senate, Kennedy played a pivotal role in advancing healthcare legislation, including securing funding for workforce development in nursing and allied health professions. He also supported initiatives to expand telehealth access, ensuring that more New Yorkers receive essential medical care regardless of their location.

Congressman Kennedy’s commitment to improving public health and advancing equitable healthcare solutions directly aligns with D’Youville University’s core values. His address will inspire graduates as they prepare to enter fields dedicated to fostering wellness, innovation, and compassionate care.
