Satisfactory Academic Progress

D'Youville students who wish to be considered for financial aid must maintain satisfactory progress in their selected course of study.

Federal and State regulations require D'Youville to establish and apply reasonable standards of satisfactory academic progress for the purpose of the receipt of financial assistance under the programs authorized by Title IV of the Higher Education Act and the New York State Tuition Assistance Program. These laws require institutions to develop policies regarding satisfactory academic progress (SAP). Each institution must design criteria, which outlines the definition of student progress towards a degree and the consequences to the student if progress is not achieved.

The D'Youville Merit Scholarship program is also subject to SAP.

Withdrawal Policies

The formal withdrawal process begins with a form the Registrar's office. To start this process, students must complete and submit a Leave of Absence Withdrawal form.

Informal Withdrawal

For a student that has attended past the drop/add period but unofficially withdrawn the withdrawal date will be considered the midpoint of the semester or term.  In this case, a Return of Title IV Funds will be performed using the 50% point in the semester as the date of withdrawal.

Undergraduate Merit Scholarships Policy

How the Scholarship Applies
  1. Tuition Only (does not cover fees, housing, meal plan, etc.)
  2. Cannot exceed total tuition cost
Registration (Full-Time)
  1. Students must be registered full-time, at least 12 credits, to receive their Merit Scholarship.
Academic Performance (Cumulative GPA)
  1. Merit Scholarship recipients must maintain a 2.25 Cumulative GPA.
    1. First semester below 2.25: Student will be placed on Scholarship Warning (student will receive scholarship during Warning period)
    2. Second consecutive semester below 2.25: Scholarship will be revoked. Students may appeal the decision.
Merit Scholarship Appeal Process for Loss of Scholarship
  1. If you lose your Merit Scholarship after 2 consecutive semesters with a GPA less than 2.25, you may appeal the loss of your scholarship.
  2. Contact your Financial Aid Counselor for guidance on the appeal process
Maximum Scholarship Duration

First time students:

4-year programs: Maximum 8 consecutive semesters

5-year programs: Maximum 10 consecutive semesters

Eligible 5-year programs:

  • Physician’s Assistant
  • Occupational Therapy

Undecided Students

  • Award length depends on the declared major (8 or 10 semesters)

Transfer Students (transfer achievement scholarship)

Length based on semesters required to complete the degree (determined by the Registrar’s office). 

Changing Programs

4-year to 5-year: eligibility increases to 10 semesters

5-year to 4-year: eligibility reduced to 8 semesters

Extra semesters due to deceleration or delays may not be covered.

Leave of Absence & Withdrawals

Official Leave:

Up to 2 semesters of official leave allowed without losing eligibility

Military leave follows official military leave policies

Leave or withdraw after add/drop period:

Merit Scholarship may be subject to proration based on time of withdrawal. If you withdraw without an official notice of leave, your Merit Scholarship eligibility may be revoked.

Special Program Rules

Physician Assistant (PA) & Occupational Therapy (OT) 5Y Programs

5th year of study; last 2 semesters:

Summer: Merit Scholarship is Prorated 

Fall: Merit Scholarships applied in Full

6-Year Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT)

If undergraduate portion is completed in 6 semesters or less:

                  Merit scholarship may apply to first year of Graduate study only

                  Must be enrolled in 12 credit hours

Professional Pharmacy (Pharm.D.)

If undergraduate portion is completed in 6 semesters or less:

                  Merit scholarship may apply to first year of Professional study only

                  Must be enrolled in 12 credit hours

Other Scholarships & Policies

HEOP Institutional waivers and grants cannot exceed tuition cost. 

If waiver or grants do exceed tuition cost, it may be subject to proration.

Students receiving discounted online tuition are not eligible for Merit Scholarships
