Fast-Track Your Impact: Where an Accelerated BSN Takes You

As a graduate of our Accelerated BSN program, you aren't just starting over, but leveling up. Your unique background, combined with rigorous clinical training, makes you exactly what the modern healthcare system is looking for.

Over four semesters—beginning with a summer session, followed by fall and spring semesters, and concluding with a final summer session—students will progress through an intensive curriculum designed to prepare them for professional nursing practice.

Nursing Student

One of the aspects I treasure most about D'Youville is the strong sense of community that permeates every corner of our organization. From the vibrant and diverse student body to the dedicated professors in the Nursing Program and other programs, I'm continually inspired by the collective spirit of support and mutual trust and friendship that grows during your time here that defines our campus. It's this sense of unity and belonging that truly sets D'Youville apart and fills our school with heart and soul. Without our tight-knit community, our campus would be lacking its most precious asset: the unwavering support and genuine care that we extend to one another.

ACADEMIC REGULATIONS

ABSN students are required to follow the Patricia H. Garman School of Nursing Academic Regulations for the current academic year catalog.

Final grades for required NUA courses in addition to courses required for the major completed at D'Youville University or another academic institution will be considered when implementing these policies.

A. Grade and GPA Requirements:

To be in good standing in the Accelerated BSN program, students must:

  1. Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  2. Maintain a minimum grade of C in all courses required for the degree
  3. A minimum average grade of 73% for course examinations is required prior to consideration of any other graded components of NUA courses. If a student’s cumulative exam average is less than 73%, the final grade for the course will be based on the exam averages only. A student who does not satisfactorily complete the clinical component of the NUA course will receive a course grade of F.

B. Progression Requirements:

  1. A minimum grade of C is required for any nursing course in order to progress.
  2. Students are not permitted to repeat a required course in the Accelerated BSN program.
  3. Students placed on academic probation due to failure of a course, a grade below C and/or GPA below 2.5 will be unable to continue in the Accelerated BSN program. Students who are not able to continue in the Accelerated Option but remain interested in pursuing a degree in nursing will be considered for admission to the traditional pre-licensure BSN program. Acceptance to the pre-licensure program is dependent upon meeting its admissions requirements.
  4. Students who need to take a leave of absence at any point while in the Accelerated BSN program will be removed from the Accelerated program and they will be required to apply to the traditional pre-licensure program when they return to school.

C. Dismissal:

  1. Students who have achieved less than a C in any course, including lab or clinical components that are required for the major, will be removed from the Accelerated BSN regardless of GPA.
  2. Any student who is required to withdraw from a clinical course due to an inability to demonstrate a required clinical competency will not be allowed to continue in the Accelerated BSN.
  3. Students demonstrating an inability to deliver safe patient care or unprofessional conduct at any time are subject to course failure and removal from the program.

D. Readmission

  • Readmission to the Accelerated BSN is not permitted.
  • Students readmitted to the Traditional BSN program (after ABSN dismissal): any failure or course withdrawal from the ABSN program will count toward the current UG policies regarding degree progression as defined in the Undergraduate School of Nursing Handbook.
  • Student Conduct

Students enrolled in the nursing program are expected to exhibit professional behavior, demonstrating responsible and mature conduct in both academic and clinical environments. Professional behavior expectations relate not only to face-to-face interactions but to actions and interactions in the electronic/ online environment as well. Unprofessional conduct will not be tolerated. Regardless of previous grades earned, unprofessional conduct may result in failure in and/or dismissal from the course and/or program. Disciplinary action will be at the discretion of the course and/or the PHG School of Nursing faculty. At a minimum, in conjunction with course faculty/coordinators and Program Directors, an Action Plan will be completed and the student will be referred to the Student Conduct Committee. Actioned deemed to be of a serious nature may be referred to the University level Conduct Committee.

    NCLEX Exam Preparation

Pre-licensure students must complete all steps in conjunction with each of the required nursing courses in preparation for the NCLEX-RN exam. This includes but is not limited to, all testing, remediation, workshops, and self-study sessions. A testing fee will be charged to each student per semester.
